Introduction
Notre projet
Unplugged Recess: Design and build game tables to be installed in the schoolyard (carpentry, Cricut, 3D printer, printed games on sheet metal). Students will design, build and animate the game tables. (machine and green play) Outdoor Classroom in Color: Starting with the Tower Garden, children will grow things with the ultimate goal of developing their gardening skills. Then, come spring, students will be responsible for adding color to the existing outdoor classroom with the addition of perennials. The students will be the initiators and will decide on the final product (green component).
Tell us about your team and your school community.
St. Joseph School has always been a leader in educational innovation. For several years, we have dared to do things differently. The school team believes in learning through play but does not always have the resources available to implement it. Our students come from a rural community and do not always have the opportunities available to students living closer to the city.
Tell us about the importance of learning through play for your team and for your students
We all know that the pandemic has taken its toll on school engagement and motivation, especially in middle school. We are committed to putting the joy of learning back in the forefront so that our students can rediscover the will to undertake and learn about themselves and discover their passions.
Tell us about your interest in joining the Canadian Playful Schools Network.
We want to be inspired by what is happening elsewhere. We want to have ideas to continue to innovate and do things differently. We also want access to resources.
