Our project
We are looking to embed indigenous practices into our academic, social and emotional learning opportunities. Through the Mi’kmaq concept of two-eyed seeing, we are looking to increase engagement and inclusivity for all our students and staff. Our school will explore inquiry-based learning via play with concepts of exploratories, technology and networking being at the forefront.
Tell us about your team and your school community.
Our team and school are collaborative by nature. We are student focused and believe in meeting students where they are and not where they are ‘supposed’ to be either academically or socially. Our school community has just over 400 students and 30 teachers at the grades 5, 6 and 7 level.
Tell us about the importance of learning through play for your team and for your students.
Redcliff Middle School has always been a school where student engagement through hands-on activities, exploratories as well as gamification of concepts has occurred. During the pandemic, Nova Scotia’s health precautions essentially had us rethink how to reach students through the virtual world of learning or through classroom practices which did not allow the sharing of materials or allow students to work in groups. It has always been apparent that learning through play is more engaging and meaningful for students.

As lifelong learners, our team understands the value of collaboration, professional learning and growth. We believe CPSN provides an excellent avenue for us to continue our learning journey through play. We are looking forward to networking and learning with other like-minded professionals.
